Protein Bar recipe

I’ve had a few people ask me about my delicious protein bars. I, unfortunately, cannot take credit for these. That credit goes to Arbonne International. Smarty pants.

But, I did throw on some raspberries and holy wow! They’re delish! I’m sure you can add strawberries, pomegranate seeds (arils) or blueberries and it would be just as good… I’ll let you know 😉

Basic Protein Bars
Ingredients
2 cups Arbonne Chocolate or Vanilla Powder (or 1 cup of each)
1 cup Agave nectar or honey or brown rice syrup (DO NOT USE HONEY ON DETOX PLAN, BROWN RICE SYRUP IS LOWEST GLYCEMIC CHOICE)
2 – 3 cups Gluten-­Free oatmeal or brown rice crispy cereal
1 16 oz jar Natural almond butter or peanut butter (check label to make sure there is no added sugar)  ONLY ALMOND BUTTER ON DETOX PLAN

Mix protein and oatmeal together in a bowl then stir in the peanut butter and agave. Press in a pan and then cover the pan with foil and put in the fridge. Cut into bars after 1 – 2 hours. Another option is to roll the mixture into balls the put in a plastic bag or plastic container and store in the fridge.

You could also add cranberries, raisins, pumpkin seeds, nuts and flax seed to make super yummy trail mix bars. BONUS: Add 3 scoops of Fiber Boost to the mix. It’ll help you stay fuller longer, and… ya know, fiber.

How to make a smoothie

berry smoothieI just love this quick newscast. This Dr. describes what you should be putting into your smoothie… (HINT: it’s not sugar, milk or yogurt).

Fruits, healthy fats, water and/or ice, protein, fiber, greens. Mix. Grind. Pour. Enjoy. Pretty simple. I think we can handle that.

Hubs and I are on DAY 3 of our DETOX and so far so good. He’s actually kind of a ‘rule junkie’ – he follows each recipe to a ‘T’ and makes sure he records each meal. I am not so strict about this. I pretty much follow the recipe as far as ingredients ( I know what I can and cannot use) and I was ‘scolded’ this morning for not recording my meals on my tracker sheet. I smiled and said ‘yes dear’. 🙂 Ugh, he’s so freakin’ adorable…

So, whether you’re rule follower like my husband, or a rebel like me just make sure you make your smoothies right so you can get the right amount of nutrients and good stuff. Otherwise you’ll be starving. And that’s not good for anyone. 😉

As long as it works, you’re healthy and happy – be the cliche and be proud, girl. 😉 (even if you’re a guy reading this, me calling you ‘girl’ is a term of endearment. Sugar Addiction

Thyroid, and sea kelp

What do they have in common? Well, nothing, really. But sea kelp is a promoter of glandular health. And why in the world would anyone care about this? Well, because I know many people with thyroid and hormonal issues- myself, included.

Actually, my ‘issue’ is that I was born WITHOUT a thyroid. Yes, it’s true. 75% of people I say this to don’t actually believe me, but it’s the truth. They call it ‘Congential (born with the condition) Hypo (not enough) Thyroidism, and only 1 n 6-7000 people have this. So I’m, like, a rare breed! HA!

If you have thyroid issues you understand how it feels and how FRUSTRATING it can be to try to talk to people- even doctors!- about how you feel! Here are some symptoms us folks deal with:

– extreme exhaustion even after sleeping for 14 hours!

– low or non-existent sex drive (guys, this doesn’t ALWAYS apply to your ladies, so don’t go rushing her to the Dr. for a blood test!)

– brittle nails and coarse hair

– mood swings: one minute you’re happy and the next minute you’re taking something WAY too personally, you’re super sad, or you’re VERY mad. One of my Dr’s called it ‘situational depression’. I’ve grown to realize it’s actually called ‘Time for a new doseage, doc’ syndrome.

The point in this blog post is to let you know how AMAZING I feel. And it really may not be amazing. It may just be normal.

My whole childhood and into my young adulthood I was told that I was lazy (I am, not going to lie, but it used to be at whole other level!) and I need to ‘get off my butt’. I slept. Like, a lot! And the idea of getting out and running around to do sports or anything like that made me cringe. It would literally make me so tired that I could do nothing but sit.
